Steel to concrete beam bolting in laterally

Steel to concrete beam bolting in laterally

RE: Steel to concrete beam bolting in laterally

I like F1554 if cast in and Hilti HAS rods or equivalent if post installed.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

RE: Steel to concrete beam bolting in laterally

Agreed with Kootk. I don't know if I've ever used A325 into concrete, unless it was a thru-bolt application.

Yea it's post installed. Kootk, have you seen the price of those HAS rods? How do they compare with F1554?

If we are using the Hilti RE-500-SD Adhesive, why can't we use the F1554 all thread?.

RE: Steel to concrete beam bolting in laterally

you can use lower grade rod than the hilti HAS provided you've made the modifications to the steel failure checks. The concrete doesn't know the difference unless you're going to high strength rod with a brittle failure mode (Super HAS equivalent).

I don't know the answer to that I'm afraid. In my neck of the woods it's all labor so I'm generally spared the concern. I'd call your local Hilti rep to verify that their design values still apply when alternate bolts are used. I'm sure it wouldn't make much of a difference but Hilti's lawyers might disagree.
