Weld joint preparation

Weld joint preparation

Weld joint preparation

(OP)
Hi,
What is the standard procedure for joint preparation for tee joint if plate thickness is 1/2 inch, bevel necessary or not.

RE: Weld joint preparation

Assuming a full penetration groove weld, a single V-bevel. Assuming a fillet weld tee-joint., no prep.

RE: Weld joint preparation

weldstan,
With all due respect your comment is misleading.
It is either single V or single bevel - it cannot be both.
If it is a Tee joint (and full penetration required) it can be a single bevel or double bevel,
Cheers,
DD

RE: Weld joint preparation

Syedt, what code construction have you been using now? then by the code someone could help you. My understand if you are following the ASME 9 the single bevel or double bevel could be prepared for your PQR.

RE: Weld joint preparation

DekDee,
I did mean to say a single bevel.
For a 1/2" thickness, beveling is required for full penetration.
