Dear friends,

We ordered API 5L Gr.B PSL-2 seamless pipes of varies sizes to a manufacturer.

As per project specification, pipes to be impacted at -18 deg C as per the requirements of API 5L.

Manufacturer done the impact test on the pipe of dia. greater than 3 inches pipes only and he refused to perform the impact test on 1" to 3" pipes.Manufacturer provided the table-22 reference of API 5L Clause -10.2.3.3.

Is it Acceptable?

RE: Uregent -Impact test requirement for pipe dia less than 4 inch as per API 5L

The manufacturer is partially correct. Transverse specimens cannot be taken from 1" to 3" pipes due to their small size. In this case longitudinal specimens can be taken, however it is recommended minimum required CVN to be increased to 40J. Have a look at ASTM A370 to understand dimensions of CVN specimens.
