Class Commodity of Computer Accessories.

Class Commodity of Computer Accessories.

(OP)
Hello, All

Have computer accessories to 20' in racks. Typical shop type environment so most are boxed and ready for the sales floor. Commodity? Is there enough plastic involved to consider it group A?

In my research most of the polymers used by computer component manufacturers are not off-the-shelf feedstocks but rather, have been chemically modified to limit flame propagation and spread. If these are consumer electronics or server equipment, the manufacturers uses modified resins which exhibits lower burning rates and heats of combustion. They are also more difficult to ignite. My experience and research causes me to classify most of these materials as Class C plastics.

Fm has a different take. Once that plastic gets going, it will burn as well as the other plastics. They got rid of the various plastic classifications, and now call it either plastic, cartoned, expanded, etc.

But I realize code and NFPA are a different animal. I have used A and B in the past for these commodities.
