Material Defect

Material Defect

Material Defect

(OP)
Good morning,
During inspection its observed that some white spots were observed on the internal shell surface where the attached welding is there on the outside.I think its because of the over heat and how much it will affect the integrity of shell plate? is there any special inspection required in this case or not? can i get some good answers please.

RE: Material Defect

Without knowing the material of the shell, I would expect these locations are caused by an oxidized surface from exposure to welding on the opposite side. Without more information, these locations may not have been exposed to overheat conditions and are typical effects from the heat of welding.

As a minimum, clean the areas and visually inspect them or perform a surface nondestructive examination.

The steel grade is A36 having thickness of 6 mm.

RE: Material Defect

First, they are not defects, they are just different.
Clean and inspect, test just like you did the fabrication joints.
