Damage Evolution definition in 2D Orthogonal Cutting

Damage Evolution definition in 2D Orthogonal Cutting

(OP)
Hello community,

could someone enlighten me regarding the equivalent plastic displacement parameter input? My material is defined with the Johnson-Cook model
but I cannot seem to find an accurate way of calculating the equivalent plastic displacement.

The problem I am trying to simulate is a 2D orthogonal cutting example with a rigid tool.

By using a displacement I have calculated based on the element characteristic length, the result I get is as follows:

As it is shown, my chip has been lifted from the workpiece way too early which is a mistake for this cutting speed and these materials.

I think it has something to do with damage evolution but every other opinion on the matter would be highly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.
