Draftsight problem

Draftsight problem

Draftsight problem

Draftsight problem

I am drawing files to use with a vinyl cutter. It is best if they are all polylines where possible.

If I draw an elipse and say cut it in half, then join other lines to it. When I make the polyline, the elipse part will not join on. Is there a way round this.

Your help much appreciated.

RE: Draftsight problem

Not sure but can you 'explode' the polylines and try that?

Also are you "snapping to" with the added lines which makes sure the line create closed objects?

RE: Draftsight problem

If it were AutoCAD, this is what my answer would be:

Polylines cannot contain ellipses. Polylines can only be composed of straight lines and circular arc segments.

I haven't used draftsight so forgive the ignorance of my questions, but some ideas...:

Can you approximate the elliptical curve you want with a series of arc-segments?
Can draftsight create a "SPLINE" instead of a "PLINE"? If you haven't drafted much in certain CAD programs, you may not have had a chance to experiment with SPLINES.
Can draftsight create curves based on an equation? An ellipse is just r^2 = a*X^2 + b*Y^2
Can draftsight "fit" a curve to a sequence of points? If you create 20 points with the equation above, can draftsight connect the dots and smooth the curve?
