UV Stabilised PP or Nylon 6?

UV Stabilised PP or Nylon 6?

UV Stabilised PP or Nylon 6?

(OP)
Appreciate your advice on best material.

Product is a small round fastener (30mm dia) with 2 'wings' below.

When twisted into place, the 2 'wings' below the body grab into an ALU extrusion channel, and lock the fastener
into place.

Installed by a small tool so some tension on the 6mm thick 'wings'.

Needs to be UV and Chlorine resistant, colour is white. Needs to hold shape and not yellow and become brittle like ABS.

Would UV stabilised PP be suitable for this application?

Or perhaps Nylon 6?

Any other economic options?

RE: UV Stabilised PP or Nylon 6?

PP not good outdoors - brittle below about 5C as well unless modified.
PA6 better but surface will yellow.
PBT very good outdoors - somewhat higher density than PA6 so less parts for your $.

Any plastic with strain will result in stress fall-off (Creep). You need to have a look for "isochronous stress/strain curves". Glass filled materials are much better for creep but glass and TiO2 (white pigment) don't work well together. Alternatives are available but they tend to have a yellowish tint about them.

Cheers

It's ok to soar like an eagle, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Thanks for the response.

What about Nylon 6 in this application?

RE: UV Stabilised PP or Nylon 6?

"PA6 better but surface will yellow." by which he meant nylon 6.
