Welding symbols
Welding symbols
(OP)
I've been looking at an ASME standard drawing with welding symbols on. The person who has done them has done a mixer of things. Some are the arrow with a z5 and a fillet symbol. Following this they have written 2 pos. The 2 pos is written in the area where you would normally specify weld length.
It got me thinking, can you write 'typ' or '2 pos' or '2PLCS' or does every joint need a symbol?
Thanks

RE: Welding symbols
When in doubt, add the second symbol. When it is absolutely clear what you mean, 2 thus, 2 plcs. should be o.k. With questions like this, always ask yourself... ‘if I had never seen this drawing or detail before, would I know exactly what the designer intended, no doubt about it?’ Let that type of thinking be your guide. Also, don’t show the same detail or section a hundred times. Show a typical detail once, and then show new details where applicable, and show their extent too, unless that is absolutely clear also.
