Pre-engineered sprinkler design on different title block?

Pre-engineered sprinkler design on different title block?

Pre-engineered sprinkler design on different title block?

(OP)
Hi Guys,

When project have pre-engineered fire sprinkler drawings it has been common practice for companies that I have worked for to simply cut and paste these drawings on the company's own title block and submit them together with the hydraulic calcs to get a permit. Obviously the PE's seal was not part of the cut and paste and we would either have our own engineer seal the drawings or a nicet level 3 sign off on them. Now that I am a freelance designer I'm not so sure I want to do things this way. I have no problem if my clients want me to put their title block on a drawing, making them 'own it', but as far as putting my credentials on it as well - I kind of have a problem with that.

I'm curious as to what others do in situations like these?

RE: Pre-engineered sprinkler design on different title block?

I don't put my NICET number on anything that I was not directly involved in. We hire freelance guys and I will put my NICET on those, but I am well involved in those projects through the entire process.

I walk away from jobs where I am asked to do something that asks me to put my credentials on something I did not do. The minimal fee you receive from that is not worth the liability in that situation.

That's my line of thinking too. I can offer to design it myself or tell them to send it off to their PE.
