NX9 and Excel 2016

NX9 and Excel 2016

NX9 and Excel 2016

(OP)
I can edit existing Part Family templates with no issue, but when attempting to create a new Part Family template I get an Internal Error and see this message in the Syslog ... +++ This excel version not supported yet.

Why would I be able to edit a template, but not create new ?

NX 9.0.3.4
NX 10.0.2.6 (Testing)
Windows 7 64 (Windows 8.1 Tablet)

RE: NX9 and Excel 2016

In the first place, with NX 9.0 we've only officially certified support for Excel 2010 (this is clearly stated in the Release Notes). With NX 10.0 support has been raised to Excel 2013. I'm not sure yet what level of Excel support will be provided with NX 11.0 as we are still several months away from releasing the software.

As for why you can open an existing Family Table 'spreadsheet' but not create a new one, I suspect that it has to do with the fact that when you create a new Family Table part the necessary 'spreadsheet' data record, which NX saves in the part file, has to be initialized. This is not necessary if the record already exists in a legacy Part file that was created using an albeit older but certified version of Excel.

I did contact GTAC and as you say there's not yet support for Excel 2016, other than testing was in progress,

NX 9.0.3.4
NX 10.0.2.6 (Testing)
Windows 7 64 (Windows 8.1 Tablet)

RE: NX9 and Excel 2016

(OP)
From GTAC ... "there are currently no plans for Office 2016 to be supported with any NX versions earlier than NX11.0"

sad

NX 9.0.3.4
NX 10.0.3.5 (Testing)
Windows 7 64 (Windows 8.1 Tablet)

RE: NX9 and Excel 2016

That's about what I would expect the situations to be. If there are any code changes that we need to make to NX itself to accommodate Office 2016, that will likely only be done for future releases. Perhaps, if the feedback from customers is great enough, something might be done in some sort of MR/MP for NX 10.0, but for NX 9.0 and older version, that's highly unlikely.
