Why are angular constraints so unreliable? NX9

Why are angular constraints so unreliable? NX9

Why are angular constraints so unreliable? NX9

(OP)
I've suffered with them in Mating and Sketches. So often I've got an angular constraint set up and when I change other constraints in model the angular one flips to the opposite side of the plane or axis it was based on.

It spins the whole part or model around. I don't really get why... Am I missing some modeling 101 knowledge!?

I've had it with fixing this kind of stuff!!

TIA

RE: Why are angular constraints so unreliable? NX9

There are two different Angular constraint types, '3D Angle' and 'Orient Angle', If you're simply looking to set the angle between two Components and leave it there, then '3D Angle' should work OK. However, if you're wishing to frequently edit the value of the angular constraint using an expression then I would use the second type, 'Orient Angle' as it should prove to be more reliable.

I have had similar issues in Sketching for sure.

RE: Why are angular constraints so unreliable? NX9

If you can provide an example of the where you've had problems with Angle constraints in a sketch, please at least post an image of the sketch if not the actual part file.

The same goes for any Assembly constraint cases.

John.

Can you send me an email address? I will send you a simple video of a sketch that I have issues with NX9+, my work firewall prevents me from posting it here.

We are not allowed to post email addresses on Eng-Tips.

That being said, look at my user name, add a couple of periods where you think they should go and then add the siemens extension.
