NX - Grips, Journals & Macros...

NX - Grips, Journals & Macros...

(OP)
Hello.

Can anyone suggest a good resource for learning how to create Grips, Journals or Macros in NX8.5. I have never used these features & am keen to learn. If anyone knows any good sites, books or Dummies guides to get me started that would be much appreciated.

Thank you
Judge

RE: NX - Grips, Journals & Macros...

I don't recommend that you learn about GRIP. It's obsolete.

You should probably avoid macros, too. They are not stable across releases. If the NX user interface changes (which it often does), then you macro will break.

This leaves "journals", which are really just normal programs written in Visual Basic (or some other standard programming language, if you prefer).

The best way to learn is probably to work through the tutorials in the "Getting Started with SNAP" guide. SNAP is the eaiest NX programming tool to learn, and what you learn will be applicable to other NX programming libraries.

Another good way to learn is to generate VB code by using the NX Journal-->Record function. This records your interactive steps in the form of VB code. The code is very verbose, but with some hunting you will find the function calls you need.

For help, either ask here, or at the Siemens PLM Community site, or at NXJournaling.com.
