Fiber Reinforced Plastic over Fusion Bonded Epoxi on pipeline

Hi,
Any of you have had previous experience in the application of Fiber Reinforced Plastic (Polyester resin plus fiber glass), over the corrosión coating (FBE)on pipelines...??

In our work, the contractor proposes that as a solution for protect the FBE from mechanical damages by abrasión on the seabed during installation (By pulling from the coast to offshore). An 2mm thickness additional layer of FRP.

What do you think about it ?

Lines features

API 5L Gr B Pipes; OD 8.625"; T= 10.31mm; Leng 3.985Km
API 5L Gr B Pipes; OD 12.75"; T= 14.27mm; Leng 3.985Km

Thanks in advance...

RE: Fiber Reinforced Plastic over Fusion Bonded Epoxi on pipeline

You definitely want to protect FBE from abrasion against any foreign objects, something that is more than very likely to happen during a pull offshore. No question. DO IT. One or two wraps? I'd do two.

RE: Fiber Reinforced Plastic over Fusion Bonded Epoxi on pipeline

FRP is better than FBE for sure, but 2mm won't do much when you hit a rock.

You would need to do some good adhesion tests to see what happens when you hit something and hope the FRP doesn't crack and rip off.

If you're dragging this over the seabed, why not just concrete coat it??

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Thanks for your attention and comments.

when I come to this work had already generated the procurement for the pipes without concrete coating.
This has resulted in some problems of handling and installation that we´re attempting to resolve.
Really we don´t have a reference point to compare this proposal for the marine job.
