Inch threaded hole is 3/8" in 3D, but 5/8" in 2D dimension?

Hello all.

I am doing a threaded hole in 3D model that is using Inch NPS standard. The Ø size is 3/8-NPS.

When I try to dimension it in drawing it show only 5/8 as mostly closed option to 3/8 of 3D model.

Why this occurs? How to dimension it as 3/8 in drawing?

What version of NX are you using?

This is 7.5...

So you are using a pipe thread here ?

Yes. This is a pipe thread.

The outside dimension for a 3/8" pipe thread is .675"

How are you annotating it on your Drawing? After all, a 3/8 NPT is nearly 0.6 inches in diameter so unless you're using the proper feature-based annotation scheme, you're probably NOT getting the proper designation.

BTW, you should really update to at least NX 9.0 where we've made the proper annotation of any sort of hole, threaded or otherwise, including pipe-threads, much easier and straight forward.

I was wondering that I could dimension it as a fraction. I don't want it as a decimal inch format.

In decimal inch format the dimension is OK.

About NX version, the company should update our software in a few days to NX 9. Until there I just have 7.5 available.

You don't 'dimension' pipe threads. You call-out the size such as '3/8-NPT' using an annotation as shown below using two different formats created with the new Hole Call-out capabilities added in NX 9.0:

OK. Understood.

Lets see what NX9 can do for me.

Many thanks for all.
