RFID data capture and middleware enquiries?

RFID data capture and middleware enquiries?

RFID data capture and middleware enquiries?

(OP)
Hi guys,

I'm new here. I hope that I have posted this thread in the correct section.

I am starting a project where I will use RFID tags on test fixtures to track their usage. The reader will be installed on a torque machine so it will track how many torque cycles each fixture has undergone. I'm a mechanical guy(i'm a technician but doing an engineer's job, amongst other things) so I have very little experience in communications protocol and embedded applications.

In theory, the best solution is to have the reader have an embedded application that collects the data, refines it, identifies the fixtures that have reached their usage limit and emails the person responsible for sending them for a re-coat. I've been looking up on RFID readers and the expensive ones look like they could do it. I just don't have anyone to ask if they could actually do it. I would also like the ability to be able to look at the data remotely.

My facility has WiFi but i'mnot sure if I can get the approval to piggyback on it. If I can't, I guess I could get the raw data from the Reader via SD card?

Thank in advance for your help!

Kai
