does A106 Gr.B could be re-classified A106 Gr.C

I have a problem with A106 Gr.C purchasing, because my pipe need to be high thickness so it could not be found out suitable and fast source, but equal thickness of A106 Gr. B is available, hence based on mill certificate of A106 Gr B could it be re-certified becoming A106 Gr.C?

RE: does A106 Gr.B could be re-classified A106 Gr.C

I have certainly seen dual certified A106 Gr.B/C. Grade C has higher strength requirements (hence the higher allowable stress). With proper testing and certification, it may be able to be dual certified.

Take a look at the MTR; it may be already dual certified as A106 Grade B/C.

Thank for you all, in the case of luckiness the A106 Gr. B could be upgraded becoming Gr. C. I just found out the API 5L X52N material that can be equivalent with A106 Gr. C.?

RE: does A106 Gr.B could be re-classified A106 Gr.C

Please refer the following ASME BPV interpretation on a similar case although for ASME Sec-I, just for your reference:

Standard Designation: BPV Section I
Edition/Addenda:
Para./Fig./Table No:
Subject Description: Section I, P0-10.1.1, Recertification of Materials
Date Issued: 12/07/1992
Record Number: BC92-396
Historical Interpretation numbers: I-92-49
Question(s) and Reply(ies): Question: May a supplier recertify pipe which is marked with SA-106, Grade B,
and upgrade it to SA-106, Grade C, if it is shown by means of a Mill Test Report
that the pipe meets all the physical, chemical, and testing requirements of Grade
C pipe and provided the rules of PG-10.1.1 are met?
Reply: Yes.
