Reverse Curve Direction

Reverse Curve Direction

Reverse Curve Direction

(OP)
Does anyone know how to reverse Direction on a curve? There used to be a function for that years ago.

I do some work occasionally where I create mid curves between complex splines. My method requires both curve to have the same direction. I can rebuild one of the splines but that is extra work. If I can just reverse direction of the curve it would help.

Maybe an App out there if the base command is gone?

Thanks all!

RE: Reverse Curve Direction

What are you trying to accomplish here ? Join Curves ?
I do not recall any curve directionality being involved, but where your pointer selects the curve has an affect on the arrow direction.
In other words if the curve direction is not correct then pick the other end of the curve.

No I want to change the curve direction. all curves have a direction like a surface normal. Used to be a UG command that did that. I need something to select a curve and flip its direction.

Thanks!

RE: Reverse Curve Direction

Do you know what method was used to create the curve ? Offset ?

RE: Reverse Curve Direction

I don't believe that UG/NX ever had a function that would reverse the direct of an existing curve. You may be confused by the fact that there is a 'Reverse Normal' function for sheet bodies.

RE: Reverse Curve Direction

In addition to the above, some of the Section/Guide selection tools built into certain command dialogs allow you to reverse curve direction. Most of them are in Freeform commands, I believe - Ruled, Through Curves, Through Curve Mesh, Studio Surface, Swept and probably a few others.

RE: Reverse Curve Direction

Yes, but those 'reverse direction' options only have an effect for that particular operation. It does not actually change the curve's original 'direction'.

I am guessing there isnt a direction change option then.

Its been many moons.... but I think it was possibly in UG9 or maybe UG12 or so.

But that doesnt matter. I am more interested in if there is a command method to change the direction of "any" curve currently available.

If you guys happen to run into a stealth option or maybe see a code option to toggle the direction without rebuilding a curve.... that would be awesome.

Thanks for the replies guys.......... appreciated.

RE: Reverse Curve Direction

Hi,
Although ypir query has already been answered by the experts...i guess we used SIMPLIFY CURVE and then (JOIN CURVE) the curve again for alternating the curve direction (depending on which segment end you choose first)
But i still believe it is not worth your precious time and effort.

Mush appreciated kapmnit123 ... I will check that out. Its not what I was after but it might be worth a try as a work around.

Thank you!

Never implied that it would and hence why I mentioned specific Freeform Features which are used to create bodies and not edit/create curve commands.

RE: Reverse Curve Direction

My painfully explicit comment was for the benefit of the OP, not you. I figured you understood that, I was just making sure that the OP did as well.

RE: Reverse Curve Direction

I think a few other systems (Catia ? Alias ? ) have ( or had) a reverse curve option, and that it might be required in these systems. ( one have to make sure that the directions are correct before creating the .... feature.)
I have had the question before ( years ago) and then replied that we don't need the option since we can flip the direction when performing the whatever action.

How does your process of creating a mid curve go ?
A ruled surface and then a isoparametric curve of that surface ?
When creating the ruled surface, you can flip the direction on the respective section after selection.

Tomas
