PWHT

PWHT

Dear expert,

Please enlighten me the requirements of this
"Hot forming operations or bending above the final PWHT temperature are applied for the vessels or vessels parts during fabrication heat treatments of quenching and tempering, or normalizing and tempering heat treatments same as required for the original product shall be carried out and mechanical properties shall be confirmed."

Thanks in advance
Benjie.

RE: PWHT

The sentence structure and syntax of the quote could be improved for clarity. Also more background on what you are making might help. As it is, I’m guessing the quote is saying to re-heat treat the part(s) after any hot working (for the usual purposes of improving microstructure, getting rid of any brittle martensite in any heat affected zones, stress gradients, etc). Bottom line is to get back to the original mechanical properties.

From where are you citing that quotation? For ASME Section VIII work, if you hot form UHT material above the tempering temperature, you must re-quench and temper the material. If you hot form UCS material above the lower transformation temperature, the material must be represented by mechanical testing reflecting heat treating the material at the hot forming temperature.
