Replacing Brick veneer around steel member

Replacing Brick veneer around steel member

Replacing Brick veneer around steel member

(OP)
I have some brick veneer in front a steel frame that I need to connect to. If I remove the brick, attach my angle to the steel beam, the angle will be sticking out of past the brick. When I put the bricks back obviously there will be some places that the brick wont' go back as original. How would you fill in the open spaces? I was thinking dry pack it but I'm not sure if that will be compatible with the brick or be too stiff and then cause cracks once the wind starts pushing and pulling on it. Thank in advance.

RE: Replacing Brick veneer around steel member

Why would you put an angle support, if there was not one before? Doesn't the brick run past the beam? Angle support should never project beyond the face of the brick and is usually held back 1" to 1.25" from face (1/3 of brick width).

The brick should be tied back to the steel beam with wire ties at 16" oc horizontally. Many manufacturers make these ties. The ties should allow the beam to move vertically without imposing vertical load on the brick.

The angle is coming through to support an antenna. This is not a typical installation of brick facade, we're trying to show an option to have the antenna supported from the beam and the brick so I'm trying to figure out option one. I have a connection detail to the brick already. They want to show both connection options to make a decision.

Where the steel penetrates the brick, make it a square hollow section, place the brick with a gap, and seal around it.

Jplay2519:
In making up the little cantilever, Hokie’s idea of a small stl. tube sounds better and cleaner than an angle. When you weld the tube to its base pl., angle it down of few degrees so it tends to drain outward. Then apply backer rod btwn. the tube and the brick and caulk all around.

Put a mirror escutcheon plate behind the antenna to cover up the brick destruction and just tell the client there are two antennae up there for the cost of one.
