elevator shaft seismic loads

elevator shaft seismic loads

(OP)
I have an elevator shaft for a two story building made out of 8" concrete. I am not using the elevator walls for shear walls for my lateral system, however, they are carrying some floor load from the upper level.
I obviously need to design this for some seismic load, however, I don't know which section of the code to use. Do you use the equivalent lateral force procedure, the min. 0.4*Sds*I*Weight for out-of-plane loads, or chapter 13 provisions for "nonstructural components."
