I am starting a machine rebuild on a gm42 gildemeister do you have any helpfull hints or tips.

Why don't you contact Gildemeister directly?  I see this all the time in industry . . .  second-hand information can be useful, but more often than not, you end up getting guesses from someone's bad experience who was never qualified to work on it in the first place.  Most machine tool factories have a handful of people who are very sharp on the minute details that never make it into the service and repair bulletins.
