Hello, I need some help understanding filler metal change on WPS from what I understand if you stay within the same F# on WPS you would not need a new WPS. Example, changing filler metal from ER70S-2 to ER70S-6 on a WPS the F# is the same but the A number is not. Per ASME would this be allowed or would a new WPS be required to reflect the change? (PQR was completed with ER70S-2).
Also we have some welding procedures for P8 material that are generic. The filler metal section refers to second page which has a table to choose from based off base metat, so for that WPS we could Use 308,316 or 321 filler metal would this be acceptable per ASME? The PQR was completed using 304 filler metal.

Why does ER70S-6 not have A # assigned?

RE: F#

ER70S-6 can fall under A-1 if you limit the Mn and Si to the A-1 composition. If ER70S-6 falls outside of A-1 then new qualification is required as A# is an essential variable.

As for the stainless table based on the base metal to be welded....this is routinely done. QW-404.33 is non-essential.

RE: F#

ER70S-6 can readily be obtained with an A-1 chemistry.
