777 MCM Cable Termination Ampacity Question
777 MCM Cable Termination Ampacity Question
(OP)
Our contractor has said that bolting two separate cable terminal connectors on top of each other then to the transformer terminal is OK. This doesn't seem right to me since the terminal connector between the transformer terminal and the outer conductor connector get 2 times the current as it passes through it to get to the other cable. I cannot find the manufacturer's (www.fciconnect.com) rating for their terminal connector Burndy YA-2N (1000 MCM)(on their site. Is there a standard ampacity for terminal connectors as a factor of the cable size for it?
Thanks!
Thanks!

RE: 777 MCM Cable Termination Ampacity Question
You may not find terminal-ampacity ratings, but a maximum temperature which is probably 90°C. Sounds like the described cable could be locomotive-power type with 1924x24AWG flexible-stranding. There are varieties of DLO cable the are listed/marked with an NEC table 310-13 type designation, like (UL) RHH/RHW. I’d get the AHJ to buy into it before installation. He may agree to using the NEC table 310-16 750-kcmil ampacity for building wire. http://12.30.8.43/fci/datasheet.asp?PN=YA44L2NTCFX&FAM=509 compression lug YA44L2NTCFX

Burndy applications literature http://www.fciconnect.com//products/technical_01_01.asp
http://www.amercable.com/DLOInst.asp is a short article about installation versus THHN.
