Books on Structural dynamics?

Books on Structural dynamics?

(OP)
Hello,

Can anyone recommend a good introductory book or lecture paper on dynamics in structures that deals with vibration etc. One that is preferably written with metric units...?

Thanks in advance

RE: Books on Structural dynamics?

What's your primary interest? Vibration due to human activity, machines, or earthquakes? AISC design guide 11 may be a good place to start.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

RE: Books on Structural dynamics?

You might think on taking a course from a local university in vibrations. The ME sections have good basic classes on the subject.

Guys, thanks for the responses.
Primary interest is seismic action and the theory behind mode shapes etc. I'm a novice with high rise design and need this for an exam.

Thanks

RE: Books on Structural dynamics?

You could take a look at Chopra's book "Dynamics of Structures: Theory and Applications to Earthquake Engineering".

RE: Books on Structural dynamics?

"Dynamics of Structures" by Ray Clough and Joseph Penzien was my go-to dynamics book. Not sure when it was last updated though.

RE: Books on Structural dynamics?

Also used Chopra's book in school and it is the book I would recommend.

RE: Books on Structural dynamics?

I also used Chopra's book "Dynamics of Structures: Theory and Applications to Earthquake Engineering" in school and thought it was pretty good.
