Goal: reduce prototype mold cost.

Pros and cons sought:  Cost, aluminum alloy to use, surface treatment, 350 Deg F operating temp, etc.

Considering the use of aluminum in fabricating a prototyping, split side action mold. To produce gate valve housings of high strength glass filled thermo set polymer in two halves. Each mating half to weigh 3 to 4 pounds depending on density achieved.

Prototyping is expected to answer knit line, flashing, thread insert pull-out strength, polymer manufacturer choice, and glass fiber fill considerations. Process compression pressure, cure/cycle time, and temperatures are to be established.

Perhaps about 25 to 50 experimental parts each are expected for test that hopefully determine steel production mold design and fabrication, and qualify the initial production  process to be used.
