ASCE 7 Non-Structural Component Anchorage

ASCE 7 Non-Structural Component Anchorage

ASCE 7 Non-Structural Component Anchorage

(OP)
Hey guys,
I'm looking into the anchorage of Ductwork, plumbing, cable trays, and conduit bracing into concrete. I understand the calculation of horizontal seismic force Fp. My question is in regards to the anchorage forces, and I see ASCE 7-05 section 13.4.2 refferences this. I'm wondering how to compute the design forces for the anchorage. I don't see in chapter 13 of ASCE 7 an equation for vertical seismic forces. However, I'm looking at "TOLCO Seismic Restraint Systems Guidlines" and the anchorage force computed utilizes the ASCE 7 eqn 12.4-4 of 0.2*Sds*Wp for the vertical forces. Do you combine the horizontal and vertical forces via ASCE eqn 12.4-1 E=Eh+-Ev and calculate the reaction force for anchorage? I see that Qe is specifically called out to be do to effects of V or Fp. This is a non-rigid hanging trapeze with tension rods, and braces that have stiffeners on them.

RE: ASCE 7 Non-Structural Component Anchorage

ASCE 7 §13.3.1 requires a vertical force of ±0.2SDSWp. To get the same results, I like to use the load combinations in §12.4.2.3 with ρ=1 and §12.4.3.2 when Ω0 is required.

Hey thanks,
I looked, and looked, and finally found the eqn hidden in the text.

"the force Fp shall be assumed to act in any horizontal direction. In addition, the component
shall be designed for a concurrent vertical force ±0.2SDSWp."

Thanks for the help with code refferences. I found that "Seismic Design Review", by the author Steven Hiner has an example problem that assisted with load combinations of vertical and horizonatal siesmic forces at the reactions (anchors).
