Free Standing RC Staircase

Free Standing RC Staircase

(OP)
Hi All!

I need a guide on how to design a free standing RC staircase. All along, I only design simple staircase with support beams. As for the case I encounter here, the architect does not allow me to introduce column/stiffener column beneath the stair landing, so my only support will the landing beam at the first step and the last step (as shown in attached file - yellow is the landing beam).

Can I have some guide or help on how to design this staircase? Thank you. By the way, I am using BS8110 in my design but I believe though we are using different codes, the design steps will be the same, right?

Thanks in advanced for your help.

RE: Free Standing RC Staircase

There's some information here: Link. Depending on the material and scale of things, you might want to give some consideration to vibration. A good place to start might be posting some free body diagrams illustrating your assumed load path. We'll happily critique it for you if you're on the wrong track.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.
