HEC-HMS 4.1 "Error 20383 Shape is not defined for Subbasin"

How do you get the Draw Map Objects feature to work, specifically for the subbasin element?

I believe I correctly followed the "strict naming convention" (basinname_Subbasin) indicated in the User's Manual as the Draw Map Objects option under the View menu is selectable. When I select Draw Map Objects nothing is visible in the Basin Model screen. As a side note, the shape file I am attempting to use does display as a background map.

The only reason I want to use this feature is it is required for HMR-52 modeling.

RE: HEC-HMS 4.1 "Error 20383 Shape is not defined for Subbasin"

Did you ever find an answer to this problem? I'm having the issue myself.

Yes I did. Besides having the file name in the correct format (basinname_Subbasin) you also need to match the name attribute of each element (polygon shape representing a watershed). If your shape file is already made you can edit the associated .dbf file with a program like GTK DBF editor to change the name.

I believe you can also rename the name attributes during the Civil3D export to shape file process.

I must be doing something wrong, the Draw Map Objects button is still grayed out.

If you renamed the attributes in the shape file try restarting HEC-HMS.

Got it! Thanks!
