How do I unlock a file?

How do I unlock a file?

How do I unlock a file?

(OP)
I was working in a file, and we had a power glitch and my system shut down (we don't have UPS's hooked up to our systems). The file I was working in is now locked. I can open a copy and rename it to another name, but I cannot do a save as to get the file back to it's original name, and I cannot delete the original file. I get the message "The action can't be completed because the file is open in another program. Close this file and try again."

How do I close or unlock the file so I can delete it? This is driving me nuts.

RE: How do I unlock a file?

See thread 559-378797. Sometimes you just have to play around with it. When I can't rename or delete, I usually close SW and do it in Explorer. Sylvia

Sylvia,

Thanks! That worked like a charm! I had closed the file and tried to delete the file in explorer, but since SW was open, I guess the file was still locked. Brilliant!
