1960's Truss analysis-Double angle size

1960's Truss analysis-Double angle size

1960's Truss analysis-Double angle size

(OP)
Hello,

I'm analyzing a truss from the mid 60's and some of the bracing utilizes double angles that I'm unable to find in the 4th or 14th editions of the steel manual. The angles used are 1.5"x1.5"x.25". I have field verified these dimensions with the plans. Has anyone experienced something similar to this? I'm I just overlooking something? Both manuals seem to stop at 2"x2"x.25". I have attached a pic of the truss in question.

Thanks
Chad

RE: 1960's Truss analysis-Double angle size

A lot of joists use members smaller than what are in the AISC manual. I haven't found a good resource for such section properties, but if you calc them yourself you can get capacity easy enough using AISC.

Thanks All. I appreciate it.

RE: 1960's Truss analysis-Double angle size

Another resource is AISC Historic Shapes Database http://www.aisc.org/content.aspx?id=2868. Smaller angles are included in some older Steel Manuals and the database/spreadsheet.

RE: 1960's Truss analysis-Double angle size

walrus - The angle size and properties you need are included in the 1960's Sixth Edition. The "historic" Excel spreadsheet that wannabeSE linked to has all the information. AISC did not make anything on that spreadsheet easy to find. The L 1.5 x 1.5 x 0.25 is shown on:

To make sure you are looking at the correct angle (there are three at 1.5 x 1.5), the thickness has to be verified, it is way over in column "BD".
