please can anyone tell me the recommended pressure loss and water velocities for sizing condenser piping when the flow rate is 3 gpm per ton?

RE: condenser water piping sizing

We typically size the velocities for 5-8 FPS, and pressure drops of around 2 FT / 100 FT, staying below 4FT / 100 FT in most applications.

thank you very much for reply. It is almost same like chilled water pipe sizing.

RE: condenser water piping sizing

Only comment I would add is that for condenser water piping design the following comments apply.

- You typically want to go with a faster velocity as it helps to keep any air from collecting together and forming air bubbles that can cause trouble with pumps and high points.

- The faster the water flow the less likely you are to have dirt come out of solution and deposit on the pipe, chiller tubes, coils, etc....

- I usually try to stay between 2.5'/100' loss and 4'
