I have one query regarding Impact specimen removal of HAZ as per SEC VIII-Div I UG84(g)(2).
Case – welded PQR with single side welded only one process. Base metal thickness is 8 mm. So question is can I prepare 7.5 mm thick impact specimen which is nearest obtainable thickness from 8 mm base metal ? Or as per fig.UG84.5 and Table UG84.6 – for base metal thickness ≤ 19 mm removal depth should be 1/4t to 1/2t, means I have to remove 2 mm(1/4t of 8mm) below the surface and prepare impact specimen 5 mm thick?

Prepare the largest specimen possible from the 8mm plate.
