ASME B31.3 - CVN test requirement exception for SS316L

ASME B31.3 - CVN test requirement exception for SS316L

ASME B31.3 - CVN test requirement exception for SS316L

(OP)
Hi Bro!
Please help me to clarify the CVN requirement for SS316L as following detail:

- Base on table 323.2.2, for austenite stainless steel (SS316): weld metal deposits shall be impact tested in accordance with para. 323.3 if min design temp. <29oC except provide in para. 323.2.2 and in note 3 and note 6
Note(3): Impact testing is not required if the design minimum temperature is below -29°C (-20°F} but at or above -104°C (-155°F) and the stress ratio defined in Fig. 323.2.2B does not exceed 0.3.

- And also follow para 323.2.2 (f):Impact testing is not required for the following combinations of weld metals and design minimum temperatures:
(2) for austenitic weld metal (-a) having a carbon content not exceeding 0.1 0%, and produced with filler metals conforming to AWS A5.4, A5.9, AS.ll, A5.14, or A5.221 at design minimum temperatures of -101 oc ( -150°F) and higher

- Our project SS316L have min design temp. -90 degree celsius

Questions:

To waive CVN test for SS316 with disign temp -90dgree, do we need to meet both requirement in table 323.2.2 note(3) and Para 323.2.2 (f)?

or

If we can’t calculate stress ratio defined in Fig. 323.2.2B, but we can meet Para 323.2.2 (f), so can we waive CVN test in this case?

How to calculate value of stress ratio defined in Fig. 323.2.2B to compare with 0.3?

=> Please help to clarify.

Thanks!
