Creating parts that are similar but different

Creating parts that are similar but different

Creating parts that are similar but different

(OP)
I am wanting to create a set of parts that are all the same except for one edge that is cut by a different surface in different locations on an assembly.
I want to still be able to add holes or modify the main body of all the parts at once as if they were the same part, but they will each have to be individual parts created with the "Paste Special - Break Link" option.

This means I can't then change or add a feature to the base part and have them all take on that change at once.

Is there a way of doing this in catia? It would sure save alot of time on some designs.

RE: Creating parts that are similar but different

so don't use paste special as result. use new from or create a master file then create a drawing and run save management.. this will save you a lot of time.

RE: Creating parts that are similar but different

  1. Make an assembly
  2. Add a part to the assembly
  3. Create your master geometry in this part
  4. Publish the geometry using tools>publication
  5. Copy the publication
  6. Add another part to the assembly for the first variant
  7. Pick the second part with right mouse button, paste special > as result with link
  8. Add features to second part to make it unique
  9. Repeat for other variants
  10. When master geometry changes, the variant parts will also change... turn red and need to be updated
You need to save the assembly so the parts stay linked together

Great ideas guys, I hadn't thought of either of those solutions. Thanks!!
