thread292-376038: Imapct testing of HAZ as per UG-84(g)(2) as per ASME Sec VIII Div.1
Hello
Going to qualify new PQR with base metal thickness 8 mm, So as per UG-84(g)at which location I have to remove HAZ impact specimen, as I can obtain 7.5 mm thick standard sub-size impact specimen from 8mm thick plat ? as per fig. UG-84.5 and Table UG-84.6 for base metal thickness below 19 mm, single side welded need to remove from 1/4t to 1/2t location, means in my case 1/4t is 2 mm, so I have to remove HAZ specimen 2 mm below the original base metal thickness ?

RE: Impact Location of HAZ Specimen as per ASME SEC VIII Div I UG-84(g)

Amit217,

Please refer to the general note mentioned under Table UG-84.6," Each specimen shall be full size, or the largest subsize specimen
that may be removed from the available material thickness
as required by UG-84(c)(2)". Thus it should be 7.5 mm sub-size specimen.
