Concrete Frame Design With Two Different Spans at Lateral Forces

Concrete Frame Design With Two Different Spans at Lateral Forces

(OP)
Hello,
I have to design a concrete frame building that has one frame with two significat different spans, one of 9 meteres and one just 2.7 meters.
My problem is that when I check the columns at lateral forces (seismic combination) in X direction one column has compression axial force and the other has tension axial force, and in -X (opposite direction) the columns have stresses the other way around.
Is there a way to avoid this situation or do I have to design the concrete columns for tension in that direction, and in compression in the other direction?
Thank you very much.

That analysis is correct. You must design for both directions. Which would result in each column requiring compression and tension resistance to exceed the demand.

Thank you very much for the reply.
I have done the checks on both tension and compression.
Have a nice day!
