Wiring Characteristics and different motor windings help

Wiring Characteristics and different motor windings help

Wiring Characteristics and different motor windings help

(OP)
I'm very new to the electric motor industry and really want to learn more about the electrical components (stator winding, winding characteristics, connections, etc) of electric motors. I am getting real familiar with NEMA and IEC mechanical designs of the motors but want to get more familiarity in the electrical make up of the motor.

I use this sight quite often for information on electric motors but just want to know if there is any beneficial reference material elsewhere to get a hold of. whether it being a website or journal, i really would appreciate if someone knows of any electric motor training that I can find online to help me grow my career in this industry. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Andy

RE: Wiring Characteristics and different motor windings help

If you can find a copy of the old Brook-Crompton 'Little Red Book' it is a fantastic pocket reference for all things relating to British and IEC motors. A few things might be a little dated as it has been out of print for a few years, but the majority is entirely relevant today. They don't come up for sale very often because anyone who has one won't be parted from it easily! smile

There are a lot of free motor documents from EPRI.
thread237-364123: Free EPRI motor documents

If you work in an EASA shop, see what EASA documents they have... those are the best resources I've seen anywhere regarding motor repair.

Another thought - sign up for Electrical Apparatus magazine - free to those who work in the "electrical repair industry"... but the overwhelming focus is motoro repair.

It has one good technical article almost every month by Technical editor Richard Nailen. I've been saving those for 15 years... a pretty good library. The magazine also has a Q&A section with reader questions / magazine response... mildly interesting.
