Required Clamping Force on a Column

Required Clamping Force on a Column

Required Clamping Force on a Column

(OP)
Hi,

I am in need of calculating the force required to clamp a circular column in a steel plate via a split collar type principle.

Is there a way to calculate the required force needed to clamp the column in place with 300kn? I have access to inventor FEA if that helps.

I am designing a 4 post machine which has a moveable crosshead.

I have attached a drawing of roughly what I mean to make it clearer.

Thanks

Jack

RE: Required Clamping Force on a Column

Need way more details.

Is the 300kN force applied axially to the column, and the load the clamped connection must handle without slipping?
