ASME Section IX Interpretation

ASME Section IX Interpretation

ASME Section IX Interpretation

(OP)
ASME Section IX 2015
Interpretation IX-13-19

I was reading through these and came across this one.

Interpretation: IX-13-19

Subject: QW-404.12, Hard-Facing Filler Metal Classification

Date Issued: August 27, 2013
File: 13-727

Question: A PQR shows SFA-5.21 metal cored filler metal classification ERCCoCr-A was used to qualify GTAW hardfacing
overlay WPS. Does this PQR support a GTAW hard-facing overlay WPS using SFA-5.21 bare (solid) filler metal
classification ERCoCr-A?

Reply: No.

Why is this the case? The only thing I can gather is that the extra C in ERCCoCr-A has some bearing, however I cannot find what the extra C is for.

I went to QW-404.12 thinking it might be in there. As far as I can tell QW-404.23 essential variable for HFO isn't it.

RE: ASME Section IX Interpretation

QW-404.23 supports this interpretation because of the difference in chemistry. Change from metal cored or flux cored composite to bare solid electrodes and rods, and vice versa.
