Carbon steel for ball valve body for minus 60 Celsius

Carbon steel for ball valve body for minus 60 Celsius

(OP)
Dear all!

Please advise the standard carbon steel for -60 Celsius. As I know LF2 can be used there, but supplier can guarantee only -50 Celsius.
So advise, is it possible to use LF2 or it's better to use LF3 (down to -100 Celsius).

RE: Carbon steel for ball valve body for minus 60 Celsius

If your spec calls for that temperature, and the references say the metal cannot be guaranteed to that low a temperature, why would you think we would over-ride the supplier?

RE: Carbon steel for ball valve body for minus 60 Celsius

I'm no material expert but like racook says - how can you go against supplier data? Sounds like bad idea

Hopefully they have the LF3 or another low temp material option

From some quick internet search it seems LF2 is tested at -46C with 15ftlbs impact for class 1.

Out of curiosity - if they do have LF3 option - what is price difference?

Serg52,

What size of a valve are we talking about? What is the service?

Curtis
