(OP)
Light weight PEMB with HSS gravity column bearing on top of CMU wall via base plate and anchors through grout. This is something I have not seen before. Any thoughts? any alternate details? I imagine it'd be better to take the post all the way down to foundation rather than stopping at the top of wall.

RE: HSS post bearing on top of CMU wall (typ. detail)

It vey much depends. Could you post plan and section sketches of your framing situation? Is it an interior column coming down on a mezzanine support wall or something of that sort? How much is the load? I'm always reluctant to throw a redundant column into a perfectly good vertical load resisting system but, in some instances, it makes sense to do so. Construction sequencing may be an issue here if block wall installation would delay PEMB erection.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

@hjk25 or you can have a pier/pilaster go all the way to the top of the wall. Here's a detail for reinforced concrete.

If not a moment frame, should be ok if loads are reasonable
