Normalizing after Hot-Finished for SA 106-B

Normalizing after Hot-Finished for SA 106-B

Normalizing after Hot-Finished for SA 106-B

(OP)
Good Afternoon,

I have some questions for Normalizing.

Our company manufactures Pressure vessels & Filters.

Question 1
Is it necessary to Normalizing after Hot-finished(Hot-rolled) for SA106 Gr.B?
I know it isn't necessary and described in NACE MR0103/MR0175 & ASME Sec.II Part.A SA106 Para.5.1.
But Our Client requires to do additional Normalizing after Hot-finished(Hot-rolled) Pipe.

I am afraid it will occur some strain of shape, mechanical properties and hardness about normalized pipe.

Please reply the question and tell me your experience or data.

Thank you.

RE: Normalizing after Hot-Finished for SA 106-B

This is not a problem for SA 106 Gr B. You can normalize after hot finishing by one of two methods; either re-heating after hot working to ensure you are at or above 1650 deg F before air cooling or if the hot working is concluded at or above 1650 deg F before air cooling.
