Crash Bar

Crash Bar

(OP)
Hi Everyone,

Just a quick one - can anyone recommend guides or standards on crash protection requirements or design requirements. International or Australian.

I've design a repair platform for tunnel work and the client has requested a 'crash bar' to be added that will stop the basket from hitting the roof.

I can put a frame going up in each corner which wont fail but it seems unreasonable as it will get in the way of the workers doing their job.

Also I can design the crash bat to take a load and not fail but then the basket will fail which doesn't make sense to me. Why even have one there in the first place.

Any guidance at all would be great

Thanks!

I think you misunderstood. I’ll bet your client said “cash bar.” Providing a cash bar on the basket will lesson any concerns about crashing into the roof.

RE: Crash Bar

You might consider a stock car type (Nascar) roll cage? There are companies that will build them to your dimensions so you can just weld it in place. You can even buy one in the mail. You have some options in tube sizes. All are built to be ductile in a crash.
