(OP)
Dear all, good day
i have done a project with flat slab system, and get slab -ve results using strip at column with width 0.25 Span, and get +ve moment from contor. when that project revised by another consultant, he refused to approve strip design, how can i help hem to change his mind, i need a paper explain difference between 2 methods to submit

Regards

The strip method is just the contours integrated over that width. I'm sure every code in the world has a section on column strips and distributing negative moments in flat plates - shouldn't be hard to find.

I'm pretty skeptical of results that haven't been processed through some kind of strip method myself. Except for very regular slabs, relying on contours only provides no rational way to establish reasonable bar cutoff locations. In my experience, when I find designers abandoning strip methods, I also find them using rules of thumb for bar cutoff locations rather than tending to them properly.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

The contour method is pretty robust for positive steel due to the fact that bar extensions are usually generous. Maybe you could run a couple of verification calcs and go over them with this other engineer over a cup of coffee.

This sounds like a people problem. You can try repeating his concerns back to him, which will validate his thoughts. Join his team, and let him know that strip analysis is common and accepted by concrete design codes. That's all he really needs to know. That it was done correctly, and the method is accepted.

If you present a paper, he may not read it. He may even become defensive.
