steel structure afected by fire
steel structure afected by fire
(OP)
Dear all
Are there some best correlations between hardness and Young Module or Yield point and Rupture point.
There a smal bluilding afected by a fire and we want to know how the steel was affected but we can not take samples for tension lab test. We can do only harness test on site.
best regards

RE: steel structure afected by fire
maybe you can take metallographic replicas on the affected elements. Through this non destructive technique an expert should be able to evaluate if the microstructure of the steel used has been affected by the fire and therefore its mechanical properties. Hardness can give you some information by comparing exposed and unexposed elements of the same characteristics, but correlations between hardness and rupture strenght must be used with care and I don´t think it can be taken as the defining factor in this case. Either way, you can find these correlations in ASTM E140 and DIN EN ISO 18265.
Best regards.

google this 'consultant fire damage steel structure'
and you will get a string of them.
