Robotics 101 suggestions for arms

Robotics 101 suggestions for arms

(OP)
Hi all,

Can anyone direct me in the direction of a good, open source, robot arm kit.

I'm trying to put a robot in a box/dome. The box/dome has holes in it. I want to robot to spot the holes or at least get pointed in the general direction of the holes then reach out and and plug them. Or initiate a servo to get a spray can to spray paint.

Can anyone suggest any sites, kits, books and equipment to get me started? I'm a big fan of getting in the guts and understanding it from doing it. There is only so much you can learn from watching videos and reading books. I have about $10,000 to spend. Its more of a hobby at this moment but hopefully I want to develop it into an arm that can sort and stack, plug, scan barcodes and pick, create 'art' all kinds of things. Whats the saying? from little things big things grow? :D

I have experience building a few 3d printers as well as a few quadcopters. As well as some knowledge in c programming. So whatever you can suggest - hit me with it :)

Thanks
