API-676 3rd Edition / Lube Oil Pump Question

API-676 3rd Edition / Lube Oil Pump Question

API-676 3rd Edition / Lube Oil Pump Question

(OP)
Question for you engineers and/or pump manufacturers out there relating to the following statement in Section 1 (Scope), Page 1 of API-676, 3rd Edition

"For rotary positive displacement pumps in auxiliary services (e.g. lube oil systems), manufacturer's standard with demonstrated experience is acceptable"

I would like opinions on why this statement was included? Was it added as a means of giving lube oil pump manufacturers justification to state they comply with the specification since the focus of the entire document is on "process" pumps and not lube oil pumps?
