UG10 - ASME/ASTM
(OP)
Hi All,
Wondering if any one can help.
We are currently manufacturing to the 2013 Edition of ASME VII Div 1. We have had plate delivered for job which is marked up as ASTM 2014. Under ASME Sec II Pt A this is not an acceptable edition and is deemed not meet the requirements of the specification. However the material test report states ASME SA240 2013 and ASTM 240 2014. Is it possible to re-class this material under UG10 a(2)?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Best regards,

As to the Code, it appears that you have a batch of SA240 2013 on your hands. This is good. Now all you have to do is match the MTR to the chunks of steel on the shop floor. This is where your QA manual comes in to play: How do you track the material to ensure that a specific chunk of steel mates up to a particular piece of paper which we refer to as the MTR? If you can mate up the MTR to the steel in the shop, then the fact that somebody painted another specification (ASTM) on the steel is irrelevant.

Is it marked or stamped with the specification?

ASTM A240 2014 is printed on the plate by the mill. But the MTR states ASME SA240 2013 in addition to this.
