Flat bottom beam design

Flat bottom beam design

Flat bottom beam design

(OP)
I need a design method to size beam stiffeners for a 96" OD vessel with internal pressure of 14 psi with a flat bottom. Also need to calculate thickness of flat bottom based on beam spacing. ASME allowable stresses as guide.

Your flat bottom will most likely not stay flat.

The bottom corner joints will fail thru bending.

The roof joint will probably fail thru bending.

The roof will be launched. It will fly a few hundred yards.

Please, please get competent help with this design. People are at risk of being hurt and this level of force - a bit over 32,000 lbs. - is not something which amateurs should be creating designs to handle.

The beams are meant to stiffen flat bottom so it doesn't bend. I need to size beams to counteract pressure so bottom doesn't bend.

Rest assured I comprehend the function of the beams. I stand behind my post from yesterday. Get competent engineering assistance with this adventure.

RE: Flat bottom beam design

Consider a horizontal vessel with dished heads.

Make sure that you are not being forced into a vertical axis flat-bottomed tank "because that's the way it was drawn on the PID !!"
